Community Kitchens

The Community Kitchen brings people together to learn cooking skills, prepare affordable meals, and share food in a supportive environment. Sessions focus on practical skills such as meal planning, budgeting, food safety, and cooking with seasonal ingredients. Participants work collaboratively to prepare dishes, building confidence and fostering connections with other community members. The program addresses food insecurity by teaching long‑term strategies for healthy, low‑cost eating while also creating a sense of belonging through shared meals and cultural food exchanges.

Our Community Development programs bring people together to build stronger, more connected neighbourhoods through inclusive opportunities for learning, leadership, and collaboration.

Who Can Access This Service?

Service Area

The Community Kitchen is available to individuals within the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre (EORC) catchment area who are precariously housed and do not have access to a full kitchen. The program offers a welcoming space for participants to learn cooking skills, prepare affordable meals, and share food in a supportive group setting. Because the program relies on specific funding and has limited capacity, spaces are prioritized for those experiencing housing instability and food insecurity.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Community Kitchen, individuals must reside within the EORC catchment area and be experiencing housing precarity, including limited or no access to a functional kitchen. Participants should be willing and able to take part in group cooking activities, engage respectfully in a communal environment, and show an interest in developing practical skills around meal planning, budgeting, and preparing healthy, low‑cost meals. No cooking experience is required—just a willingness to learn and participate.

Participants must also be registered EORC clients to access the program.
